A TOTAL of 11,200 athletes and officials from 17 regions are converging for the 57th Palarong Pambansa set to start on May 4 to 10 at the sprawling Laguna Sports Complex in Sta. Cruz town, Laguna province.

Gov. Jeorge “E.R.” Ejercito said that most of the delegations have already arrived in time for the formal opening ceremonies at 8 a.m. on Monday with no lesss that 8-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao as among the five sports personalities who will carry the Olympic torch. The others chosen to participate in the symbolic lighting  of the urn are Sochi Winter Olympian Michael Martinez and two-time PBA MVP James Yap. Also joining Ejercito in the opening rites, which bear the theme ”Sports is a Way of Life” are Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia, Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco, DepEd secretary Armin Luistro and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.
