6.5-MAGNITUDE PACIFIC QUAKE OFF VANUATU

HONG KONG: A powerful 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Vanuatu in the South Pacific on Friday, but United States geologists said it was too deep to cause a tsunami. The quake hit 16 miles (27 kilometers) east of the beach town of Port-Olry at 8:40 p.m.
