COTABATO CITY: Six local government units (LGUs) – one provincial government, one city government and four municipal governments – in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) were awarded with 2016 Seal of Good Local Governance recently. Noor Hafizullah Abdullah, Department of the Interior and Local Government secretary, said that to become Seal of Good Local Governance recipient, an LGU needs to pass standard improvements on performance, accountability, transparency and participation. The awardees are Maguindanao province; Lamitan City in Basilan; and the towns of North Upi and Parang in Maguindanao; Wao in Lanao del Sur; and Jolo in Sulu. This year, 46 towns in the region passed the 2016 Good Financial Housekeeping. The Seal of Good Housekeeping was launched in 2012 to boost the government’s reform initiatives in the regions.
