CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Six died, while nine others were seriously injured when a military combat vehicle collided head-on with a passenger van in Manticao, Misamis Oriental on Monday night.
Superintendent Lemuel Gonda, spokesman for the police regional command, said the victims are all Maranaos heading to Pantao Ragat in Lanao Del Norte after visiting a relative in a Cagayan De City hospital.
He identified the fatalities as Hadji Latif Macaumbos, Rey Dacoa Mancao, Hadji AminBangcola, driver Siete Gumba, Jocelyn Oclarit Baldoz, and an unidentified woman passenger.
The injured were Renzo Von Pagayon, 20; Raime Tangote; Noyhaya Ampaan; Hadji Aspiya Lanto; Abdul Ratif Lanto, 9; Dimpinto Norjama; Nobalsa Domapo; Rama Tangoti and Samsoon Domapo.
Investigation by Manticao police showed that a convoy of four military trucks from Iligan City was heading towards Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental to haul logistical support for the military in Marawi City when the fatal accident happened.
Gonda said the convoy tried to overtake a trailer truck along the highway when the military combat vehicle driven by Staff Sgt. Danny Tenezo collided head-on with the passenger Hi-Ace van at about 8:30 p.m.
He said the five victims died on the spot while the sixth died at Manticao provincial hospital. The injured were also confined at the Manticao provincial hospital, 74 kilometers west of here.
Inspector Marlo Lariosa, chief of the Manticao police, said they have impounded the military vehicle and held Tenezo for investigation.
