Local DJs battle it out at the Red Bull Thre3style Finals tonight for a shot to represent the country on the world stage.
Happening at the Valkyrie Nighclub in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, the finalists are DJs Miguel and K Groove (Kristian Hernandez) from Cebu City qualifiers, DJs Niki Del Rosario and Franco Zarate from Angeles City, Pampanga qualifiers, and DJs Kouta Kutsuma and Carlo Atendido from Quezon City qualifiers.
Thre3style is a competition that gives DJs the opportunity to showcase their spinning skills including technicality, originality, creativity, the art of gauging the crowd, selecting tracks, stage presence, energy, and ultimately the ability to lure people on to the dance floor and keep them going wild.
With world-renowned DJ Shortkut and Asian visual DJ champion TaShi as judges, a number of the local scene’s newer faces showed off their technical skills and played their most electrifying music in 15-minute sets to rapt the crowd.
Among this cycle’s mixing and crowd-rousing elite, only one will get to represent the Philippines at the Thre3style World Championships in Tokyo, Japan later this year. In 2014, DJ Carlo Atendido, who is also a Filipino finalist for the 2015 edition, became the first Filipino to advance to the World Championships finishing third overall.
