6 Filipinos die in Riyadh fire


SIX Filipinos, three of them children, died when their apartment building in Riyadh was razed by fire on Saturday.

The Philippine embassy in Riyadh said the victims — Sahara Mapandi, 46; Rema Mapandi, 8; Ryan Mapandi, 7; Dodio Guiamat, Karen Anne Guiamat, 31, and one-year-old Aneeka Guiamat, lived in an apartment at the Sulaimania district in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Karen Anne, who worked as a nurse at Riyadh Military Hospital, was four months pregnant.

Taugan Mapandi said his wife and children were still asleep when he left to work at 6 a.m. The Mapandis died of suffocation.
