6-month gun amnesty takes effect

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan: The six-month amnesty for loose firearms took effect nationwide on Saturday in accordance with Republic Act 10195 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Control.

The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) said the gun amnesty allows holders of unlicensed firearms to register their guns for them to avoid stiff penalties.

PPP’s Public Information Officer Chief Inspector Ryan Manongdo Manongdo said
Philippine National Police chief Alan Purisima signed the implementing rules and regulations of RA 10195 on Nov. 24, 2013.

Under RA 10195, no person applying for license will be charged any delinquent payment accruing to the firearms subject for registration. All owners of unlicensed firearms were advised to take advantage of the opportunity to register their firearms.
