6 saved off Cebu coastal waters


Ormoc City: Six persons on board a small motor banca were rescued after spending four hours in the water by a fast craft after it capsized off the waters of Danao City, Cebu on Thursday.

The motor banca, which left Danao City around 11 a.m. on Thursday, was on its way to Camotes Island. The vessel capsized after an hour after it was hit by big waves.

The passengers were rescued by the fast craft owned by 2Go, which brought four of the six passengers to Ormoc City. The two other passengers, crew members of the motor banca decided to stay on the vessel.

Roel Binueza, 2Go boarding officer, identified the four survivors as Yoda Tanaka, 26, Konomi Yama-nuchi, 30, Kesuke Ichikawa, 31, all Japanese Citizens, and their Filipina guide Mina Tano, 23, of Cebu City.

He said that the four were brought to Ormoc City on board the fast craft Saint Emmanuel when crew members saw them waving while they were clinging at the capsized motorboat. He added that the four were immediately brought to the office of the Visayas Coast Guard District where a local rescue group gave them first aid treatment.
