SIX army troopers were wounded by a landmine explosion that led to an hour-long encounter with a band of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels on Monday afternoon in a remote village in Digos City, Davao del Sur, Army officials said on Tuesday. Captain Ernest Carolina, spokesman for the army’s 10th Infantry Division (ID) identified the wounded soldiers as Sgt. Eliseo Peraño, Cpl. Marcelino Bagood Jr., Pfcs. Olomodin Dicampong, Lory Kim Lacal, Genesis Quilaton and Pvt. Michael Guiba. The 10th ID spokesman said the encounter between troops of the 39th Infantry Battalion and rebels occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on Monday at Sitio Lutungan, Barangay Kapatagan in Digos City of said province. The encounter, which resulted to the wounding of six soldiers, between troops and rebels lasted for about an hour, Carolina said.
