MALVAR, Batangas: Seven of the 12 inmates who escaped from the detention cell of Malvar Municipal Police Station on Monday were recaptured within 24 hours in simultaneous manhunts in the provinces of Batangas and Quezon.
Senior Supt. Leopoldo Cabanag, Batangas police provincial director, said inmates El King Leonida, Melvin Ona, Arvie Villegas, Freddie Santos, Artemio Castillo Jr., John Raniel Castillo and Morris Rap Publico were rearrested in the towns of Mataas na Kahoy and Tanauan in Batangas, and in Tiaong and Pagbilao in Quezon.
He added that police teams continue to track down other fugitives, as he commended Senior Police Officer 4 Reynaldo Salazar of Batangas Provincial Intelligence Branch, the Provincial Public Safety Company led by Chief Insp. Gerry Laylo and the Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU) with SPO1 Omar Honrade.
The 12 inmates escaped at dawn on Monday by cutting the steel bars of the 10-foot high ventilation window of the detention cell and used blankets tied together to get out.
The jailbreak resulted in the immediate removal of Senior Insp. Alberto Fabregas, chief of police of Malvar, including three unnamed personnel.
