GMA Network rolls out new programs, mobile app for anniversary

This whole month of June marks GMA Network’s 66th anniversary as one of the leading giants in commercial television and radio broadcasting in the Philippines.

It was officially established on March 1, 1950 by a company called Loreto F. de Hemedez Inc. through Republic Broadcasting Systems’ DZBB on radio.  On June 14 of the same year, it was re-launched as a local radio station in Manila under the ownership of Robert La Rue Stewart, an American war correspondent, who was more commonly known as Uncle Bob.

Through the years, GMA, which originally stood for “Greater Manila Area” in reference to its reach, passed on ownership to the triumvirate of Gilberto Duavit Sr., Menardo Jimenez, and lawyer Felipe Gozon, who have successfully taken the network to the digital age, as well as a valuable publicly listed company.  Changing its acronym to mean “Global Media Arts” through its expansion, it is known today simply as GMA Network Inc., with the popular moniker as the Kapuso Network.

To celebrate its milestone, the network announced it will roll out a series of new programs for the entire month of June beginning with the ongoing A1 Ko Sa’yo!, a sexy comedy featuring 2016 Cannes Film Festival Best Actress Jaclyn Jose and Solenn Heussaff; another comedy in Conan My Beautician  with Mark Herras and 2013 Miss World Megan Young beginning June 26; afternoon soap Sa Piling Ni Nanay, again with Mark Herras, as well as Yasmien Kurdi and Katrina Halili; and Hay, Bahay!  with comedy bigwigs Vic Sotto and Ai-Ai delas Alas.

Viewers should also watch out for the premiere of the highly anticipated return of Encantadia  with Kylie Padilla, Gabbi Garcia, Sanya Lopez and Glaiza de Castro.

Meanwhile, as the network further entrenches itself in the digital times, GMA has also launched its mobile application, which is available for both iOS and Android devices.

The GMA Network app was developed by GMA New Media, Inc., a subsidiary of the network and its forerunner in technology that provides interactive solutions on TV, the web, and marketing and online gaming.

Through the mobile app, fans can get the latest scoop on their favorite talents, as well as videos and photos on the go, including headlines from their news portal.

Moreover, users can earn “Kapuso Points” through the app’s games, which may also be converted into raffle entries to the weekly Kapuso Points Panalo Sweepstakes draw.  This is the network’s way of truly celebrating their 66th anniversary with its loyal followers.
