BACOLOD CITY: Seven drug pushers were sentenced to life imprisonment while seven others were meted a maximum of 17 years in jail for possession of illegal drugs.

In separate decisions, Executive Judge Raymond Joseph Javier of Bacolod Regional Trial Court convicted Rey Steve Escaran Esteban, Randolf Padilla San Luis, Rhoda Bautista de Asis, Charlito Tabanaw Sayon, Dante Amarilla Parandas, Lyle Lopez Infante and James Partick Milliam de Asis of anti-illegal drug charges.

Ordered to serve from minimum jail term of 12 years to a maximum of 17 years and eight months for possession of drugs were Danilo Tarog Vivas, Ronnel Leonardo Laberos, Irene Crusada Bacacao, Shiela Mae Chua Cordova, William Reyes Dolar, Richard Nilay Consorte and Willy Miranda Satoc.

The sentences were meted out during the Department of Justice’s “Judgement Day” on Friday when 167 cases were disposed of and 97 prisoners were released.

Under the Judgment Day program, simultaneous hearings are held to resolve cases “with detention prisoners who may already be released pursuant to existing laws and rules.”

Those freed in time for the holidays had already served the possible prison term for their offense even before the court could hand down a verdict on their cases.

Of the 52 cases ruled on, 33 were promulgated and 19 were dismissed for insufficiency of evidence as records showed.

The seven life termers were immediately ordered transferred to the National Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa.

In his decisions, Javier meted Esteban and San Luis a life term for conspiracy in transporting 98.718 grams of shabu near the Pope John Paul II Papal Tower at the Reclamation Area in Bacolod City on October 21, 2014. They were also ordered to pay P1-million fine each.

Rhoda Bautista de Asis was found guilty of two separate cases of selling and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. She was arrested in a buy-bust at Abada Escay, Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City on May 7, 2014.

Sayon was arrested and found guilty of selling P500 worth of shabu to a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) poseur buyer and later found with several grams of illegal drugs at Purok Kagaykay, Barangay 2 on October 16, 2009 while Parandas was busted at Barangay Singcang Airport on February 25, 2013.

Infante was sentenced to life imprisonment for selling and delivering a brick of marijuana fruiting tops weighing 19.54 grams to a PDEA poseur-buyer at Ciocon Road, Barangay 26 on July 18, 2009.

James Partick Milliam de Asis was arrested and found guilty of selling P300 worth of shabu and found with drug paraphernalia in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2 on August 27, 2013.
