7 killed, 5 wounded in Basilan blast


Seven persons were killed while another five were wounded following a bombing attack believed to be carried out by suspected Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands near the Vicente Ferrer Parish Church, Zone 6, Barangay Tumahubong, Sumisip town, Basilan on Tuesday evening.

Capt. Jefferson Somera, 1st Infantry Division spokesman, said six of the fatalities died during the explosion and one expired at the Zamboanga General Hospital in Zamboanga City.

These were identified as Rey Limbin, Elbert Gumuba, Elbert Gumuba Jr., Kitarol Kadik, Lynibel Cesniros, Lourdes Ablong and Jessa Dingkong, who died at the Zamboanga City General Hospital while treating her wounds.

Five persons are still being treated for injuries, he said.

Somera said military and police investigators have yet to determine what type of bomb exploded and who set it off.

Initial reports tagged the perpetrators as members of the ASG.

The blast took place at the home of a militiaman identified as Manuel Cisneros. PNA
