Veteran tankers Patrick Tierie and Christen Mercado will be leading the strong 76-member Philippine Swimming League (PSL) delegation which aims to defend its overall title in the 2014 Singapore Invitational Swimming Championship scheduled on August 2 to 3 at the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC).
National junior record breakers McTracy Alindogan and Sean Terence Zamora as well as the Cordero sisters Denjylie, Delia Angela and Dennice are also expected to shine in the two-day meet.
Former Senator Nikki Coseteng will be the head of delegation while PSL President Susan Papa, Secretary General Maria Susan Benasa and Secretariat Head Guia Llaguno are also in the team.
“Tierie and Mercado registered a superb time during the recently-concluded Coseteng Cup. Tierie clocked 26.07 in 50m butterfly and 25.44 in 50m freestyle while Mercado timed 28.37 in 50m backstroke and 25.25 in 50m freestyle,” said Papa.
The SICC is the same venue where Olympic champion Michael Phelps and the US team acclimatized for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
“We are giving them proper exposure to hone and gauge their skills for future big international tournaments including the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea next year. We want to start training them as early as possible,” added Papa.
