The Philippine Swimming League (PSL) has selected eight swimmers from Bacolod who qualified to the Summer World University Games scheduled next year in Gwangju, South Korea.
They are Marco Lacson, Ronald Homa, Rose Mary Occeño, Remselle Limaco, Chloe Zaragosa, Maia Aliana Sumile, Erika Esplapor and Rona Homa, who registered notable times during the 69th PSL Leg Series at the Panaas Sports Complex in Bacolod City.
“These swimmers will be given the chance to experience world-class competition in the Summer World University. That’s one of the benefits of our monthly swimming competitions,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
“We are opening the doors to everyone. No membership requirement unlike in other associations that you need to pay for membership before competing in their tournaments,” she added.
Negros tankers Jason Adrian Mirabueno, Danika Mikaela Alba, Jerald Lawrence Rubin, Kyle Andrew Lemery, Lance Jiro Tacsagon, Aisha Cherub Ormeo, Jared Ormeo, Jose Benedict Palafox and RJ Andrea Chico are also slated to participate in the 2014 Royal Bangkok Swimming Meet on November 27 to December 2 in Thailand.
“Besides the World University Games, we also have a lot of international tournaments next year that’s why we are going to provinces to give them a chance to represent our country in international level,” stressed Papa.
“We want to expose them to high-level of competition to gauge their skills, learn something from their foreign counterparts,” she said.
The PSL holds the 2014 Sen. Nikki Coseteng Swim Championship on November 15 to 16 at the Diliman Preparatory School in Quezon City.
The PSL is the national sports association for swimming of the Federation of School Sports Associations of the Philippines. It has the longest running swimming grassroots development program in the country. The PSL is also an affiliate to Federation International Sports University.
