THE Department of Justice has set for September 9 the preliminary investigation for the Balintang Channel shooting incident which killed a Taiwanese fisherman last May.
Prosecutor General Claro Arellano said subpoenas were issued against the eight members of the Philippine Coast Guard who were charged by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Arellano said there is sufficient evidence to charge the eight for homicide.
Summoned to appear before the DOJ are Coast Guard Commanding Officer Arnold dela Cruz, SN1 Edrando Quiapo Aguila, SN1 Mhelvin Bendo, SN2 Nicky Reynold Aurello, SN1 Andy Gibb Ronario Golfo, SN1 Sunny Galang Masangcay, SN1 Henry Baco Solomon and PO2 Richard Fernandez Corpuz.
For the crime of obstruction of justice, the DOJ has summoned Dela Cruz, Bendo, SN1 Marvin Ramirez at Lt Jr Grade Martin Bernabe.
The NBI will act as the complainant in the case.
The members of the investigating panel are Assistant State Prosecutors Juan Navera, Alexander Suarez and Josie Christina Dugay.
