CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro: Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso V. Umali Jr. said Monday that a total of 8,041 families or 37,223 individuals are now temporarily housed in different evacuation centers across the province to ensure their safety.
Gov. Umali said the evacuees were brought to the evacuation centers even before typhoon Ruby made a landfall in the province this morning after it hit Samar and Bicol regions.
In Calapan City, Mayor Arnan Panaligan reported that 284 families with 1,180 individuals are now being taken care of in Adriatico Elementary School and Divine Word College of Calapan campus.
Panaligan said housed in Adriatico School are 69 families or 238 persons came from Barangay Navotas; Villa Antonio, 71 families or 261 persons; Maidlang, 44 families, 189 persons; Gutad 20 families/80; Caguisigan, 13/46; Lazareto Silangan, 7 individuals and Ibaba West 11 families/61 persons.
In DWCC campus, seeking shelter are 54 families or 284 persons from Ibaba West; Tibag 1 family or 8 persons and Pachoca one family of 6.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 4-MIMAROPA (Mindoro Marinduque Romblon Palawan) said that at present, there are 143 evacuation centers across the region. PNA
