LEGAZPI CITY: In a bid to lessen the backlog of school classrooms in Bicol, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be constructing P629.2 million, or 852 classrooms across the region this year.
Lucy Castañeda, DPWH regional spokesman told The Manila Times that the department will construct for Department of Education (DepEd) calendar year 2013 Basic Educational Facilities Fund where 852 classrooms with an allocation of P629.2 million will be im-plemented as soon as an exemption from Resolution 9585, series of 2012 will be granted by the Commission on Elections.
The classrooms allocation will be prorated at the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Ca-marines Norte, Masbate, Catan-duanes and Sorsogon when the project is done.
Earlier, the DPWH in Bicol constructed 98 classrooms worth P48.2 million, she said.
The project according to Castañeda is under the so called DepEd calendar year 2012 Regular School Building Program, with an allocation of 73 school buildings or 98 classrooms with funding release of P48.2 million.
Danilo Dequito, DPWH regional director said the project is completed and ready in time of the school opening this school year.
