AN 87-year-old groom tied knot with his 37-year-old bride during the mass wedding in Imus City, Cavite on Thursday.
The oldest among the couples was Eduardo Marcel, 87, who swapped nuptial vows with a 37-year-old bride from Cavite.
“A future remains uncertain, but with a wedding like this, for sure, there will be memories that will last them a lifetime,” Mayor Manny Maliksi of Imus City said.
According to Maliksi, the wedding was free, with marriage contract, marriage permit and other required wedding documents. The newlyweds were also treated with a reception complete with food, music and free rice cookers.
One hundred couples were married during the mass wedding
Meanwhile, the oldest among them were Lina Sodela, 71, and Jessie Israel, 62, who had been living together for the past 31 years. They said that they were not married before because they had no money to spend for a simple wedding.
The mass wedding was sponsored by the office of the city mayor and local officials led by Rep. Alex Advincula of Third District, Maliksi and four other members of local councils who served as their godparents.
This was the seventh mass wedding held in Imus City since Mayor Maliksi took the city’s top post. The mass wedding coincided with the city’s 238th founding anniversary of the city. And it was one of the city’s biggest wedding event of the year.
