DEFENDING champion San Beda College Red Lions seek for their seventh win as they face equally tough San Sebastian College Stags in the resumption of the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Red Lions are currently bearing a 6-1 card and need to win against the Stags to strengthen their hold of second just half a game behing solo leader Letran, which is toting a clean 7-0 card.
Both the Red Lions and the Stags square off at 6 p.m. following the Arellano Chiefs and the St. Benilde Blazers’ encounter at 4 p.m.
The two juniors matches pit Arellano Braves against the CSB-LSGH Greenies at 12 noon while the reigning titlist Red Cubs collide with the Staglets at 2 p.m.
The San Beda-San Sebastian encounter is expected to be another epic battle after the oldest collegiate league resumes from a long rest to pave way for the staging of the 27th FIBA-Asia Men’s Basketball Championship from Aug. 1 to 11 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Gilas Pilipinas at least reached the Finals for the first time since 1985 by thrashing South Korea, 86-79, in the semifinal round last Saturday. The victory over the Koreans was also the first time after a long while in the binneal Asian tourney. They were still facing two-time champion Iran in the championship at presstime.
