The 8th Asian Film Awards (AFA) concluded on March 27 at the City of Dreams in Macau set at the grandiose Dancing Water Theatre, to welcome the cinematic elite from all over Asia.
Asia’s top celebrities such as Zhang Ziyi, Donnie Yen and Carina Lau showed up for the event, impeccably dressed in designer outfits. The red carpet was overflowing with star power as celebrities gathered to celebrate the achievements of Asian cinema in the past year.
Filipina Eugene Domingo looked sharp on the red carpet wearing a beautifully tailored suit accented with metallic jewelry. Domingo was light-hearted as she presented for both the Best Editor and Best Cinematographer awards.
Domingo presented herself as a true superstar, maintaining her grace in defeat. The Filipino actress joined the audience in a standing ovation when Zhang Ziyi from The Grandmaster, was named the Best Actress at the 8th AFA. She exemplified the spirit of the awards ceremony—celebrating the achievements of Asian films.
The Grandmaster was the biggest winner of night bagging the Best Film, Best Director for Wong Kar-wai, Best Actress for Zhang Ziyi, Best Cinematographer for Philippe Le Sourd, Best Production Designer for William Chang Suk Ping and Alfred Yau Wai Ming, Best Composer for Nathaniel Mechaly and Umebayashi Shigeru, and Best Costume Designer for William Chang Suk Ping.
Best Actor went to Irrfan Khan (The Lunchbox), Best Supporting Actor to Huang Bo, No (Man’s Land), and Best Supporting actress to Yeo Yann Yann (Ilo Ilo), while Jiang Shuying (So Young) was named Best Newcomer.
Other awardees of the night were Ritesh Batra, Best Screenwriter for The Lunchbox; Shin Min-kyung, Best Editor for Cold Eyes; and Jung Sung-jin, Best Visual Effects for Mr. Go; Hou Hsiao-Hsien was honored the Lifetime Achievement award.
