BAGUIO CITY: A lualo (prayer for the dead) through nine days of novena throughout Ilocos Norte started on Wednesday in anticipation of the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani (LNMB). Father Ambrose Monroy said lualo is a way of remaining united with the dead in spirit. The first lualo was done at Marcos’ hometown in the City of Batac. Fortuna Marcos-Barba, the only surviving sibling of Marcos, and former First Lady Imelda Marcos will lead the novenas starting at 3 p.m. and followed by requiem Masses at 4 p.m. until November 24. The next lualo will be at Sarrat town this Thursday and in the municipalities of Dingras and Vintar on November 18 and 19, respectively. On November 20, the novena and Mass will be held in Bacarra town at 8 a.m. This will resume in Laoag City on November 21, then in the towns of Badoc and Paoay in the succeeding days at 3 p.m. The last lualo on November 24 will be held again in Batac City.
