All nine Filipino netters in the boys’ singles were booted out in the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer International Junior Championships on Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.
Vince Russell Salas fell short against Singapore’s Joshua Liu, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (6) as well as Alberto Lim Jr., who suffered a 3-6, 2-6 defeat at the hands of Hong Kit Jack Wong of Hong Kong.
Eric Olivarez Jr., Jerome Romualdez, Andrew Joshua Cano, John Bryan Decasa, Dave Sebastian Mosqueda, Marcen Angelo Gon–zales and Joachim Samson were also unlucky in the opening round of the Grade 1 tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation.
Olivarez succumbed to Jack Van Slyke of Canada, 4-6, 4-6; Romualdez lost to Hei Yin An–drew Li of Hong Kong, 2-6, 1-6; Cano bowed to William Mathe–son of New Zealand, 2-6, 2-6; Decasa surrendered to Lee Kuan-Yi of Taiwan, 1-6, 0-6; Mosqueda was beaten by Sameer Kumar of US, 2-6, 0-6; Gonzales was forced to retire by Lewis Roskilly of Great Britain, 4-6, 3-4; and Samson absorbed a 3-6, 0-6 loss to Brian Tran of Australia.
Khim Iglupas, Roxanne Resma and Maia Bernadette Balce along with Andrea Nicole Amistad, Angela Sunga, Monica Cruz, Marie Pages, Frances Santiago and Colleen Sioson were scheduled to play in the girls’ singles.
