• 9 trafficking victims rescued in Iloilo

The Western Visayas Police Office rescued nine women, including a minor, during an entrapment operation against suspected human traffickers in downtown Iloilo City on Friday evening, a senior police official said on Monday.

Western Visayas Regional Police Chief Supt. Bernardo Diaz through the Regional Police Information Officer Insp. Shiela Mae Sangrines said that two trafficking suspects were also arrested.

The operation, which was conducted by Regional Women’s and Protection Desk chief Insp. Joem Malong and Iloilo City Social Welfare Office personnel, led to the arrest of four suspected pimps.

The operation was conducted after police received information that unscrupulous individuals along Ledesma and Arroyo Streets in Iloilo City were forcing minors into prostitution.

Diaz ordered the entrap-ment and rescue operation in the area.

The regional police commander said in the report that the alleged pimps were detained at the Iloilo City Police Station 1 for further investigation.

The regional police commander said the suspects will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9280 or the Anti-Human Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 in relation to RA 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law.
