SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela: At least nine barangays (villages) in this city were declared drug-free by the Santiago City Police Office (SCPO) after evaluation showed that no more illegal drug activities and drug users were reported in the areas. Senior Supt. Percival Rumbaoa, SCPO chief, said the villages of San Isidro, Luna, Sinili, Santa Rosa, Abra, Salvador, Nabuan, Cabulay and Bannawag have been found to be free of drug problems. Rumbaoa said drug suspects who have surrendered under “Oplan Tokhang” were recommended for various skills and livelihood trainings to help them completely avoid engaging in the illegal drugs business. As a challenge to totally rid the villages of the drug menace, Mayor Joseph Tan pledged to give a service vehicle as incentive to the barangay that has been declared drug-free.
