Will Imelda Schweighart give the country a third straight win?
After besting 45 other equally young and beautiful representatives from different Filipino communities here and abroad at Saturday’s coronation night, all eyes are now on 21-year Imelda Baustista Schweighart who will represent the Philippines in the upcoming Miss Earth 2016.
The pressure is on for the newly-crowned Miss Philippines Earth will try to snag the international crown in a beauty pageant that champions environmental advocacies, two years after past bets Jamie Herrell and Angelia Ong consecutively won the title in 2014 and 2015.
Beauty pageant veteran
A theater arts student based in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Schweighart is no stranger to beauty pageants. Besides being the reigning Miss Puerto Princesa, a national tilt is also nothing new to her as she had joined Binibining Pilipinas in 2013, the same time Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach first joined the said pageant. Moreover, Schweighart finished in the Top 15 of the longest running beauty pageant in the country.
The 5’7” stunner might as well be familiar to the Filipino audience since she even entered show business at the tender age of 14, under the screen name Imee Hart. She also once co-hosted the variety show Willing Willie with Willie Revillame and starred in the youth oriented show Bagets: Just Got Lucky, both previously show on TV5.
Three years after her first loss in pursuing a national title, the German-Filipina has realized she is destined to be a beauty queen of a different kind, advocating the protection of Mother Nature.
In her winning answer on coronation night at the UP Theater in Diliman, Quezon City, Schweighart detailed her environmental advocacy when she replied to the question, “If you had the chance to talk one-on-one with the president-elect Rodrigo Duterte, what assistance would you ask from him on your climate change advocacy?”
“My climate change adovacy is banning genetically modified organisms and genetically modified seeds because I believe in natural food in order to feed our mind, body, and soul. So, if we really want to feed our minds and become smarter, let’s support banning GMO, Duterte. I would also like to encourage him to put bike lanes here in Manila, and I would take him to Puerto Princesa and I would show him how clean our place is.”
Joining Schweighart among this year’s crowned beauties are Miss Eco-tourism Melanie Mader from Vienna, Miss Philippines Fire Shannon Rebecca Bridgman from Pangasinan, Miss Philippines Water Loren Mar Artajos from Laog City, and Miss Philippines Kiaragiel Gregorio of London.
Schweighart will compete in Miss Earth’s grand coronation, slated in October 2016 and rumored to be mounted in Macau.
