On the first day of Madrid Fusion Manila 2016 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, the event’s world renowned chefs, delegates, and DOT and Madrid Fusion officials were feted at a Welcome Party at the scenic SM By the Bay in SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City.
Hosted by SM, the event highlights the continuing collaboration between SM and Madrid Fusion Manila, which began last year.
The guests were treated to a Filipino fiesta party with a sumptuous spread of local cuisine from Café Adriatico and Vikings, as well as special showcase of different types of lechon. They also tasted of local drinks from Tanduay, San Miguel, and Don Papa Rum of Kultura.
Director of Arum Estrategias Internacionalization Iñigo Cañego, Floro de Debate’s Lourdes Plana long with Michelin Star chefs from Spain Joan Roca, Fernando Perez Arellano, and Ricard Camarena were seen enjoying the great food, great scenery by the bay, and great company.
In a fusion of east and west, Asian based foreign chefs savored culinary specialties from the Philippines: Central’s Chef Virgilio Martinez from Peru, Pujol’s Chef Enrique Olvera from Mexico, Cuca’s award winning chef Kevin Cherkas from Indonesia Kevin Cherkas, Pig and Khao’s Chef Leah Cohen from the United States.
Japanese chef Yoshihiro Narisawa, who is considered the pioneer of cuisine connected to the preservation of the natural environment, also enjoyed the fiesta fare together with Peruvian Chef Karime Lopez Moreno and Hong Kong chef Nurdin Topham.
Department of Tourism officials led by Verna Buensuceso and SM executives led by SM SVP for Marketing Jon Jon San Agustin and SM AVP for Operations Perkin So warmly welcomed the guests.
It was a night not only of great food, but also great dance moves with Team Vibe, an award winning group of dancers across the globe who delighted the audience with an East meets West spectacle.
