“Maraming salamat,” was all Gary Valenciano’s could say when the lights came on to reveal a jam-packed Araneta Coliseum at his 30th anniversary concert in March.
He recalled the moment to The Manila Times this week when he announced an upcoming August repeat of the two-night show that left no doubt in the public’s mind that Gary V. is still irreplaceable as Original Pilipino Music’s “Total Performer.”
Humbled by the continued support of his fans since the ‘80s, his friends and colleagues in showbiz and the music industry, and more importantly, reenergized by a young new fan base, the OPM stalwart waxed sentimental over the hit Arise Gary V. 3.0 turned out to be.
“Usapang kaibigan lang ha?” he gently laughed. “But you all know when my career was just ‘there’ after a long time, as if going nowher else. So to come out for two nights and see the Araneta filled to the bleachers—with friends and fans singing, dancing and celebrating my career with me—there was nothing else I could do but give. Give everything I had in me to show everyone how grateful I am to be able to perform for them up to now.”
The concert documented Gary’s awe-inspiring and amazing career, highlighting his most unforgettable and significant contributions in the entertainment industry. The singing superstar’s body of work include a consistent string of multi-platinum full-length studio albums, over 50 hit singles, sold-out concerts both here and abroad, as well as blockbuster and classic movies and unforgettable endorsements among many others.
Thousands of loyal fans, industry leaders, and top celebrities such as Zsa Zsa Padilla, Conrad Onglao, Vice Ganda, Mother Lily, Jed Madela, Christian Bautista, Erik Santos, Daddy’s Home, Girlie Rodis, Korina Sanchez, Tricia Centenera, Lorna Tolentino, Amy Perez, Arnold Vegafria, Iza Calzado, Jamie Rivera, Carlo Orosa, Audie Gemora, Wenn Deramas, Lauren Dyogi, Rajo Laurel, Cristalle Belo-Henares, Garlic Garcia and Maricel Soriano witnessed the first run of Arise.
The concert boasted not only of gifted music that inspire the soul and move the feet but it was also a visual treat as it showcased innovative technology and dazzling production numbers that kept audiences at the edge of their seats.
As expected, demands for an Arise repeat flooded Gary’s team shortly after the concert. After spending some time with his family in the US during the summer, the Total Performer is all set to give all over again.
“Amazingly, this concert had the most number of request for a repeat [in my career],” Gary said in happy disbelief. “People say, ‘I’m taking my in-laws, my kids, our friends, etc.’ and it’s just overwhelming.”
Think of Arise as a roller coaster ride that takes audiences back to the ‘80s with Gary’s romantic ballads and high-energy dance hits. Ultimately, the concert transcends its pomp and spectacle as it also shines the spotlight on the singer’s faith with praise music that touched hearts and spirits through the years.
Also expected to reprise their standout performances as special guests of the show are Philpop 2014 finalist Kiana Valenciano, rock icon Rico Blanco, young stars Iya Villana and Sam Concepcion, The Manouevers, and Super Selfie King and international online sensation Gab Valenciano. Co-directing anew are Gary and his son Paolo Valenciano.
