Immerse yourself in an experience Switzerland this coming August as the country celebrates its 725th National Swiss Day.

Since 1891, the first of August has been celebrated as Swiss National Day. The date refers to an alliance formed in 1291 by the three cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden, the centre around which Switzerland was built. It is also the one day Switzerland’s residents come together to celebrate in towns and cities all over the country.

Each Swiss commune offers a day of federal unity by organizing firework displays, concerts, public speeches or presentations to celebrate.

Here in Manila, a piece of Switzerland can be experienced as Marco Polo Ortigas Manila will hold a week-long celebration of Swiss chocolates, cheese, and more at All Things Swiss from August 19 to September 4.

It will highlight Swiss traditions from wine and cheese, to pralines making, to watchmaking. Launching this is the Swiss Military Band, blaring of trumpets and horns to mark the start of the celebration on August 4 at the hotel’s Grand Ballroom.
