Nowadays, we seldom hear people talk about their humble beginnings. How through hard work, they rose from the ranks to become successful in life.
This, Noel Gonzales unabashedly said in a thank you speech at a birthday asalto he tendered in honor of his foster mother Zeny Bautista who celebrated her 85th birthday on April 4. The event was held at the elegant showroom of the Muebles Italiano owned by humble, kindhearted and generous businessman.
Tita Zeny who is single up to now helped the young Noel and took care of him like her own. Eventually, she also helped him start his business that we all know today as Muebles Italiano.
Owing his success to Tita Zeny, Noel made sure that he offered her a wonderful birthday celebration.
The affair began with a mass celebrated by Fr. Boyet Concepcion who drove all the way from Bulacan to say mass. It seems that Fr. Boyet’s parish is also a recipient of Noel’s generosity where he continuously support. This Fr. Boyet also proudly said thanking Noel for his kind heart.
Dinner followed where a large buffet spread of Filipino dishes were enjoyed by guests led by Cong. Imelda Marcos, who took time out from her busy campaign schedule to wish Tita Zeny a happy birthday. Most of the guests were family friends and good friends of Noel and lovely wife Aileen. After dinner a very nice program was dedicated to tita Zeny. Yours truly together with good-looking Victor Silverio was asked to Emcee the program. Opening the program was a bouncy chachacha number by Dancesport champion Edna Ledesma and Jojit Cabuenas. I am always proud to say that Edna was one of the first students of the Becky Garcia school of Dance and I saw her potential and encouraged her to continue to train, which she did and was very focused. Look where she is now. Becoming very popular as a singer who front acted shows of Engelbert Humperdinck, Julio Iglesias, David Osborne, Air supply and very recently the latest concert of Ms. Gerphil Flores, , Noel’s favorite son Kris rendered several song numbers. And of course, not to be outdone, Daddy Noel followed Kris by rendering his favorite songs. After his songs, Noel called in the star of the Asia’s Got Talent runner up lovely Gerphil Flores who was well applauded and the guests asked for more. Noel also did a beautiful duet with Gerphil.
Edna and partner returned for a second dance number The passionate Rumba. Merjohn Lagaya, Aliw awardee and Asia’s most after violinist presented several beautiful pieces, some were even danceable.
A surprise of the evening was the duet of the favorite song Dahil Saiyo of Cong. Meldy together with Dr. George Sarakinis.
But the program cannot end without the exhibition dance numbers of Edna who has been tutoring Noel for sometime now and they did a mean boogie and a lively swing. I teased Noel to go into dancesport competition.
The program ended with a short thank you speech from the celebrant herself who was so overwhelmed and overjoyed by this lovely party that Noel gave her.
To Noel may your tribe increase and may you continue to share your blessings with the less fortunate!
