It had been three weeks since her only son tied the knot, and yet, Roselle Monteverde still gets misty-eyed remembering the beautiful Boracay island wedding that saw a whole new beginning for her beloved Keith.
“You should see Mother!” she laughed when The Manila Times teased her to just let go and allow her tears flow. She was referring of course to her mom Lily Monteverde, matriarch of Regal Entertainment and the one and only “Mother” of Philippine show business. “Actually, Keith and Winni’s wedding was really meant for her because they’re both based in the United States.”
Keith Monteverde-Teo is the eldest grandson of Mother Lily, who literally grew up in the business. “Mother would always bring him along to shooting or even press cons when he was little so everyone knew him talaga,” related Roselle. “That’s why many of their sponsors for the wedding are showbiz friends too, like [Batangas] Gov. Vilma Santos, Antonio Tuviera [of TAPE Inc.], Charo Santos-Concio [of ABS-CBN], and directors Joey Reyes and Chito.”
Today at 32 years old, Keith has migrated to the States, and is working in San Francisco, California with top-notch credentials. He graduated cum laude with a Law degree at Boston University and also holds a Masters of Law from UC Hastings.
His brand new wife, Taiwan-born Winni Wang, meanwhile, is just as much an achiever as he is, and also works as doctor-pharmacist in California.
“Actually, Winni was living in the East Coast for the last four years of their relationship, but apparently, ang mga kabataan ngayon napaka-career driven talaga. They gave themselves an ultimatum that if Winni didn’t find work in the Bay Area, they would actually break up! Lucky for them, the company she worked for had operations in California, and she applied for a transfer. So I guess you could say they were meant to be,” continued the proud mother.
Besides working hard and having Asian roots, Roselle also noted that Keith and Winni are both Catholics.
“They will have their church wedding naman in the States, kaya talagang para kay Mother ang wedding nila dito,” Regal’s second-generation boss laughed again. “First apo kaya you can imagine ang iyak niya!”
Of course, Mother Lily had her special moments in the wedding, as she was asked by her grandson to give a speech where she immediately asked for grandchildren. She was also surprised by the groom who asked her dance with him to one of her favorite tunes, “Que Sera, Sera.”
Indeed, the Teo-Wang wedding was a very “regal” one to borrow the name of the family’s famous movie-making company. From a picturesque wedding ceremony by the sea, with vows just as touching a script from a romantic film; to a reception worthy of a movie set, with thousands of flowers, famous personalities, and of course, a “cameo” by Mother Lily herself.
Asked whether her new daughter-in-law was overwhelmed by such a grand occasion, lovingly organized by the Monteverdes, Roselle smiled and said, “Happily she was just enjoying everything. She didn’t know she was surrounded by celebrities here in the first place so everything went really okay.”
And anyway, even if the guest list had such bigwig names from showbiz, business and government—including Sen. Loren Legarda, Irene Tan Luy, Robina Gokongwei-Pe and lawyer Anna Teresa Gozon among so many others—they are all considered longtime friends by the Monteverdes, whose milestone occasion cherished their presence.
“The photos will show that it was a really an affair for Keith and Winni, and family and friends who are closest to all of us,” ended Roselle.
Today, the proud mother of Keith and Winni shares brand new photos from the wedding that will first see print in The Manila Times.
