Peña orders eviction of congresswoman’s office
Makati City Rep. Marlen Abigail Binay on Friday accused Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña of exacting revenge on her family by ordering the eviction of her field office at the Makati City Hall complex.
“Pinalayas ako sa opisina kasi gagamitin na raw ni acting vice mayor. So, okay lang! Ako naman eh masunuring bata lang. Wala akong magagawa, ’yun ang patakaran nila eh [I was told to vacate the office because the acting vice mayor, Leonardo Magpantay, is going to use it. So I said, I’m okay with it. I’m just being obedient. I can’t do anything, that’s the rule they want to enforce],” she told The Manila Times during the 1st Makati Food Festival at the Greenbelt 3 Park, Ayala Center, on Tuesday.
The congresswoman is the daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay and elder sister of unseated Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr.,who was ordered dismissed by the Office of the Ombudsman for his alleged involvement in anomalies at City Hall.
Congresswoman Binay said she was given until November 11 to vacate her City Hall office in an order purportedly issued last week.
City government employees who were seconded to Binay’s congressional office were also recalled and ordered to report to their mother units, she added.
Peña and Binay bumped into each other at the food festival. They were civil to each other.
The latter said she was invited by a friend from City Hall.
Peña’s spokesman denied Binay’s accusations.
“Not true. Walang inalis kahit isa sa tao nila ni Rep. Monique [Lagdameo]. Lahat ng mga staff nila, na-renew din ang contract when Acting Mayor Kid took over,” Peña’s spokesman Gibo delos Reyes told the Times in a text message.
During his State of the City Address and filing of certificate of candidacy for mayor on October 12, Peña turned emotional in recounting how he was allegedly maltreated by the Binay family when he was still the vice mayor.
Sought for her reaction, Rep. Binay said, “No wonder why he is doing the same thing. Now he is harassing the Binay supporters. You know what, there’s a tendency than when you were bullied, you become a bully as well. So that’s exactly what he is doing now.”
She added that there is a possibility that many employees will be sacked from the city government because of their support to the Binay family.
Those who joined the “demolition job” against Binays, on the other hand, were given a position at City Hall, the congresswoman claimed.
She and Peña will vie for the city’s mayoral post in next year’s elections.
