Listed company Aboitiz Equity Ventures remains interested in bidding for more public-private partnership (PPP) projects even after recently bagging two major contracts from the government because it considers infrastructure development
as a focal point in growing its business.
AEV’s land development arm Aboitiz Land and Ayala Corp. recently submitted the highest bid for the P35.4-billion Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax) project under Team Orion, and are currently awaiting the notice of award from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
On top of this, AEV has also received the notice of award for a bulk water supply contract in Davao while it looks at more bulk water supply projects in other parts of the country.
“Participating in more PPP projects is in line with our thrust of focusing on infrastructure to grow our business, as well as our way of supporting the country’s economic growth,” said Erramon Aboitiz, AEV assistant executive vice president and chief executive officer.
The Team Orion consortium of AC Infrastructure Holdings Corp., Aboitiz Land, Inc. (AboitizLand) and Macquarie Infrastructure Holdings (Philippines) Pte. Ltd. submitted the highest qualifying financial bid for the project with the amount of P11.66 billion.
The MPCALA Holdings, Inc. of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) submitted a financial bid of P11.33 million and, while the Malaysian-owned Alloy MDT Philippines, Inc. submitted a financial bid of P922 million.
“There is a business case for them to bid the premiums. Our concession terms are really viable and commercial risks allocated are fair so the bids that we received are premium instead of subsidy,” Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center executive director Cosette Canilao told reporters earlier.
On June 2, in accordance with the Instructions to Bidders, the Special Bids and Awards Committee opened Envelopes 1 and 2 of the bidders in the order in which the bids were received to determine the presence or absence of the required documents. Calax is a 44.7-kilometer toll road project that will start from Cavitex in Kawit, Cavite and end at the SLEX-Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna.
It will have interchanges in eight locations: Kawit, Daang Hari, Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, Silang, Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay, Laguna Blvd. and Laguna Technopark.
