Abra police tighten security


BANGUED, Abra: Police have tightened security here following a series of shooting incidents in December and New Year’s Day. Farmer Marcelo Benoza, 49, of Barangay Bulbulala, La Paz, was found dead in a rice field with gunshot in the head early morning of January 1. Around 5:45p.m. on the same day, 38-year old driver Reynaldo Siganay of San Isidro town was allegedly shot by barangay kagawad Ernesto Valera of Sitio San Gregorio, Naguilian, La Paz. Sinagay just came from the house of the mayor of Villaviciosa and was on board a motorcycle when fired upon by Baro several times. Baro was arrested later but no firearm was recovered from him. Last Decembe, the chief political aide of La Paz Mayor Joseph Bernos was killed in an ambush by unidentified suspects. Four days later, the father of a barangay chairman in Dolores town was also gunned down in Bangued, Abra’s capital town.
