Abra provincial worker slain in drive-by ambush


CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet: An employee of the Abra provincial government was killed in an ambush on Sunday afternoon while on his way home to Quiliat, Langiden, Abra

The fatality was identified as Paterno Aspacio Benedicto Sr. while passengers—Erick Blaza, Paterno Benedicto Jr, and Gelyne Borillo—on his motorcycle sustained minor injuries.

Bangued police reported that Benedicto and his passengers were on a Red Honda TMX 155 tricycle, without plate number. On reaching a rough road leading to a river, unidentified gunmen came from the left side of the road and shot at the head of Benedicto several times.

The victim was brought to Seares Memorial Hospital by his relatives for medical treatment but was later declared dead by his attending physician while undergoing medical treatment.

The assailants drove toward the direction of Barangay Cabuloan, Bangued on a Yamaha Mio motorcycle. Police operatives recovered three fired .45 cartridges and one slug of unknown caliber. Motive is yet to be determined as investigation is still going on.
