On September 26, ABS-CBN staged a stellar collision of its brightest stars to give an unforgetable show for fans of It’s Showtime, the network’s noontime variety show.
It’s Showtime, which is set to celebrate its sixth anniversary on Octber 24, kicked off a month-long celebration with a free concert at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on September 26.
Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Vhong Navarro, Karylle, Billy Crawford, Kim Atieza, Jugs Juguera, Teddy Corpuz, Jhong Hilario, Ryan Bang, Coleen Garcia and Eric Tai ignited the fans’ energy with dance and song numbers, aerial performances, strobe lights, fireworks, and German wheel, among others. All this elicited deafening cheers from the madlang people, or the solid viewers of the show.
As an attempt to suppress a competitor or not, the opening number on that episode was on such a grand scale that even netizens praised the show for “impressive and world-class numbers.”
After which, the noon time continued to pull out all the cards with back to back staging of its regular segments: Pinoy Big Brother 737 Teen Edition Big Four competed against Gimme 5 boy band at Clash of Celebrities where the two groups tried to do their best impersonations of ABBA and Menudo respectively; Pasion de Amor and Nasaan Ka ng Kailangan Kita casts went head to head on Lip Swak the group with the most entertaining production and most impressive lip synching skills win.
The stars of the afternoon shows, dubbed as Kapamilya Gold also graced the stage namely Yen Santos and Aaron Villaflor sweetly sang their show’s theme song All of Me while Julia Montes and EA Guzman of All of Me tickled their fans with the dance hit Dessert.
The child stars of Ningning and Nathaniel went back-to-back with The Funny One, a comedian search of It’s Showtime, winner Ryan Rems to make the audience giggle with their skits and banters. The laughter festival continued with the witty impersonations of It’s Showtime hosts ala-Your Face Sounds Familiar: Billy came out as Gary V., Jugs and Teddy as Mike Hanopol and Pepe Smith, Vhong as Ely Buendia, and Jhong as April Boy Regino.
The Voice Kids Season 2 finalists Esang De Torres and Sassa Dagdag with grand winner Elha Nympha plus season 1 finalist JK Labajo belted out their winning pieces to the delight of Smart-Araneta Coliseum audience.
But perhaps the most memorable productions of It’s Showtime on that Saturday came on the later part of the show.
Vice Ganda came out as his all-male alter ego, Viceral and serenaded his ka-love team Karylle (collective, they are called Vicerylle). Vice went as far as giving Karylle two kisses on the lips, which totally threw their unlikely love team’s fans off the roof.
After the flashing of a supposed mysterious tweet from her new suitor, Pastilla’s Girl Angelica Jane Yap giggled like a school girl when actor Coco Martin revealed himself.
Finally, the crowd reached its most boisterous state when today’s hottest love teams Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla (KatNiel), James Reid and Nadine Lustre (JaDine), and Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil (LizQuen) took the stage all at the same time. The move, later explained, tried to dispel the supposed ‘rift’ between the three love teams and their fandom.
