ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network Inc. both claimed on Thursday that they widened their lead in TV ratings in the viewer-rich areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila last month, according to their respective surveys.
ABS-CBN said more Filipino households across urban and rural homes nationwide tuned in to the programs produced by the network in March, scoring an average audience share of 44 percent, or 10 points ahead of GMA’s audience share of 34 percent, based on ABS-CBN- commissioned Kantar Media’s data.
Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes, which ABS-CBN claims to represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population.
ABS-CBN said it swept the top 10 most-watched programs in the country in March.
Kantar data showed that ABS-CBN maintained its lead at primetime from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight, with an average audience share of 48 percent, or 15 points higher than GMA’s 33 percent.
The Lopez group-led company claimed that the strong performance was driven by the network’s quality line-up of drama television series or teleseryes.
Besides leading in primetime, ABS-CBN claimed that it also continued to beat other networks across all programming blocks.
Meanwhile, GMA, headed by its chairman Felipe Gozon, claimed that it led in the key areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in January, based on data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.
Urban Luzon and Mega Manila represent 77 and 59 percent, respectively, of the total urban television households in the country, GMA said.
For the period March 1 to 31 (March 23 to 31 based on overnight data) GMA said it registered a 35.7 percent average total day audience share in Urban Luzon, outscoring ABS-CBN’s 31.6 percent by 4.1 points and TV5’s 11 percent by 24.7 points.
Also, the Gozon-led company scored top ratings in its bailiwick Mega Manila with a 37 percent average total day audience share, higher than ABS-CBN’s 29.1 percent by 7.9 points, and TV5’s 11.8 percent by 25.2 points, it said.
GMA and TV5 subscribe to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement while ABS-CBN is the lone local major TV network that reportedly subscribes to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.
In Mega Manila, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement gathers data based on a sample size of 1,190 homes.
