GMA Network Inc. (GMA) and ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. both said that they continued to be the choice among viewers in the Urban Luzon and Mega Manila for the month of October.
ABS-CBN said that it strengthened its nationwide leadership over rival TV stations with an average total day share of 45 percent, up by three points from the previous month and 12 points higher than GMA’s 33 percent, based on data from Kantar Media.
October’s figures also showed that more Filipino households across urban and rural homes tuned in to ABS-CBN’s shows, as all of its programming blocks gained an upturn, the Lopez-led network claimed.
In the morning block or from 6 a.m. to 12 noon, ABS-CBN got 37 percent versus GMA’s 34 percent.
ABS-CBN’s early afternoon block, which runs from 12 noon to 3 p.m., was also up by four points to 43 percent, while GMA dipped to 37 percent, ABS-CBN claimed further.
The Lopez-led broadcasting firm also said that its late afternoon block jumped to 45 percent, or eight points higher from previous month’s 37 percent.
ABS-CBN’s primetime offerings also remained at the top in October, with an average audience share of 49 percent, or 18 points ahead of GMA’s 31 percent.
The primetime block is the most important part of the day when most Filipinos watch TV, and where advertisers put a larger chunk of their investment to reach more consumers effectively. Overall, 13 out of the country’s top 15 most watched programs were produced by ABS-CBN.
GMA and TV5 subscribe to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement while ABS-CBN is the lone local major TV network that reportedly subscribes to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS.
For its part, GMA said that it reigned over rival networks in Urban Luzon with a 35.9-percent total day audience share, higher than ABS-CBN’s 32.6 percent by 3.3 points, and TV5’s 11.4 percent by 24.5 points. Urban Luzon accounts for 76 percent of the total urban television households nationwide.
This was based on data from ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, for the period October 1 to 31 (October 27 to 31 based on overnight data).
Leading across all timeblocks in Urban Luzon, GMA said that it outnumbered its competitors on the list of top-performing programs in the area with 16 out of 30.
GMA also reinforced its leadership and led across all day parts in its bailiwick, Mega Manila, where it registered a 37.1-percent total day audience share average.
The Kapuso Network led ABS-CBN by 6.7 points versus ABS-CBN’s 30.4 percent, and TV5 by 25 points versus 12.1 percent.
