Bring together the Queen of Philippine Movies, showbiz’ most iconic contravida, and TV’s so called “Prime Time Idols,” and what do you have? ABS-CBN’s answer to rival station GMA Network’s prime time dark horse, the phenomenal gay-themed series My Husband’s Lover.
Taking TVLandia by surprise, GMA Network finally found a winner in the Carla Abellana, Tom Rodriguez and Dennis Trillo-starrer, forcing ABS-CBN to abruptly cancel Angelica Panganiban and Piolo Pascual’s Apoy sa Dagat, which took a nasty beating in the ratings game.
Originally slated for a later date, ABS-CBN rushed the production of what it now calls the network’s “biggest drama offering for the year,” Muling Buksan ang Puso, and just this week, announced a premiere date for July 8.
What is certainly “big” is the show’s stellar cast, comprised of their young prime time stars Julia Montes, Enchong Dee, and Enrique Gil in the lead; with no less seasoned actors Cherie Gil, Agot Isidro, Daniel Fernando, Dominic Ochoa and Jestoni Alarcon, and acclaimed veteran performers Pilar Pilapil, Dante Rivero, and the one and only Susan Roces in supporting, albeit crucial, roles.
While no one dared mention anything about the beating ABS-CBN has taken from My Husband’s Lover, it was obvious at Muling Buksan’s press launch that the network is pulling all the stops in boosting the production’s success. Every single big name actor from the show graced the panel interview held at Restaurant 9501, while top network executives walked in and out of the posh dining room to show their support.
Muling Buksan Ang Puso is the newest masterpiece of Dreamscape, the group that created the phenomenal teleserye Walang Hanggan, and the recently concluded family drama Ina Kapatid Anak, and the ongoing top-rating teleseryes Juan De la Cruz, My Little Juan, and Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala. It is under the direction of two of the maestros of new-age Filipino soap operas Nuel Naval and Manny Palo, and written by Rondel Lindayag and Reggie Amigo.
Boasting of “world class production design and costumes,” the heart-wrenching love story of two generations are shot in the picturesque locations of San Juan Batangas, Tagaytay, and Antipolo, Rizal
The entire cast talked about their roles as something new and thoroughly challenging but as always, Queen of Philippine Movies Susan Roces described her part in the most dignified of ways.
“I’m very happy that my role in Muling Buksan ang Puso is very convincing. Nababagay siya sa akin. And I have no qualms about supporting young actors today because that’s where we all started. We were all supported by established actors, even [my co-actor]Pilar Pilapil, when we were much younger in the business, and the lead in love stories like this. It’s time we do the same,” she ended.
