An ABS-CBN news team was attacked by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Marawi City shortly after noon Saturday, an alert from the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines said.
“Fortunately, none of them were injured although their crew cab sustained damage after the gunmen opened fire on them,” the NUJP said.
The news team led by Ronnie Enderes, who also chairs the local chapter of the NUJP, was on their way back from doing a follow-up story on the bombing of NGCP transmission towers in Ramain, Lanao del Sur when the incident happened.
“The NUJP reminds the Aquino Administration that incidents like this are a shameful reminder of the culture of impunity that has become the norm rather than an aberration in a democracy such as ours.
“The NUJP calls on authorities to quickly investigate the incident and arrest the perpetrators so they may be brought to justice,” the statement read.
