• Absence of relocation site stalls CDO’s P2-B ‘mega dike’

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The absence of a suitable relocation site has stalled the construction of the city’s P2-billion “mega flood control dike” here, an official said on Friday. Evelyn Barroso, regional director of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), said the construction of the mega dike started six months ago along the Cagayan De Oro River. Barroso said the DPWH, in cooperation with the concerned local government units and residents along the riverbanks held a series of meetings prior to the construction of the mega dike. She said the DPWH stopped the construction, because the affected residents are demanding for a relocation site as agreed during the series of dialogue earlier. Barroso urged the city council to find a suitable relocation site so the DPWH could proceed with the project before the onset of the rainy season. The Japan International Cooperation Agency is funding the mega dike’s construction.
