THE two Mandaluyong City police officers who were caught on video beating and pointing a gun at two men they arrested for violating a city ordinance banning drinking liquor in public have been sacked.
Eastern Police District (EPD) Director Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula ordered the dismissal of Police Officers 1 Jose Julius Tandog and Chito Enriquez, both assigned at the Barangay Patrol of Barangay San Jose, Mandaluyong City, after he saw the video.
The EPD chief also ordered the filing of an administrative case against the two police officers who are also restricted in their police station while undergoing a thorough investigation.
Initial police investigation showed that Tandog and Enriquez arrested two civilians, identified only as Alfred and Allan, who were having a drinking spree along a street, which is strictly prohibited by the city government.
The arrested civilians refused to be handcuffed. They told the law enforcers that they will peacefully go with them to the police station, but the police officers were irked and beat them with a stick.
The police officers were not aware that there was a CCTV in the area. When confronted with the video, they apologized to the two civilians and promised to shoulder their medical expenses.
Supt. Joaquin Alva, Mandaluyong police chief, however, said that even if the two parties agreed to settle the case amicably, they will still pursue the filing of an administrative complaint against the two police officers.
