Racing suspension for M135i, power upgrades for all variants
BMW tuning specialist AC Schnitzer has made available upgrades for the recently revamped BMW 1-Series compact hatchback.
The German tuner said in a statement it has created cosmetic and performance accessories for all variants of the F20 1-Series. Perhaps the most radical example is the 1-Series 5.0d concept car, which shoehorns the triple-turbocharged, 3.0-liter, twin-cam, 24-valve, common-rail-direction-injection, inline-six diesel from the BMW M550d into the 1-Series’s engine bay.
With additional upgrades, it produces 400 horsepower and 800 Newton-meters of torque. That is 300 Nm more than the 2.8-liter, inline-4 turbodiesel in the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Colorado, and 40 Nm more than the 3.9-liter, twin-turbo V8 petrol in the recently-launched Ferrari 488 GTB. This propels the 1-Series 5.0d from the 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.5 seconds. Sadly, the company said this model is not for sale.
Power, suspension upgrades for 1-Series
Customers can also crank up the power on the regular 1-Series variants. All turbodiesels can get a 40-horsepower upgrade, with the 2.0-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve, common-rail-direct-injection, inline-4 unit in the top-specification 125d now producing 258 horsepower.
Meanwhile, 116i owners can get an extra 68 horsepower from their 1.6-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve, direct-injection, inline-4 turbopetrol engine to deliver 204 horsepower. For those with the 3.0-liter, twin-cam, 24-valve, direct-injection, inline-6 turbopetrol unit in the M135i, an extra 54 horsepower can net 380 horsepower with the optional chargecooler and sports exhaust catalyst.
The M135i can also be fitted with a sports silencer and chromed tailpipes, with the latter available for all other variants. All the 1-Series models can also be fitted with a sport-suspension package and a 30-millimeter lowering kit, while the M variant can be equipped with fully adjustable racing suspension for more demanding high-speed driving. This set-up lowers the M135i by up to 45 millimeters at the front and up to 50 millimeters at the back.
The company said all performance upgrades come with a two-year warranty.
Body kits, interior fittings available
AC Schnitzer also offers cosmetic accessories to make your 1-Series look like a racing machine. M cars get a special, two-piece front spoiler, while non-M cars have a regular front spoiler. A chrome grill and rear wing are also available, along with carbon-fiber side-mirror covers and protective film for the rear bumper.
Moving inside, the 1-Series can be fitted with “Black Line” aluminum covers for the iDrive controller, gear knob, handbrake handle, pedal set and foot rest. An illuminated or non-illuminated leather gear knob can likewise be optioned or even one with a digital display. An AC Schnitzer key holder and velour floor mats complete the available interior accessories.
And finally, the company offers its signature 18-inch, 19-inch and 20-inch alloy wheels, which includes an all-new style for the 1-Series. These are available in BiColor Black, BiColor Silver, Silver and Anthracite.
