Pacesetters all conference long, Phoenix now finds itself in danger of falling out of the top two spot in the 2016 Philippine Basketball Association D-League Foundation Cup.
Losing their last two games against Cafe France and Racal, the Accelerators stare at the possibility of being at a disadvantage come playoff time.
But on Tuesday, Phoenix will get a shot to set the sail right when it faces Blustar Detergent at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
“It’s a must win for us. But we’re looking at it the same way we did all conference, one game at a time,” said Phoenix coach Eric Gonzales.
The Accelerators truly faces an uphill battle to make it on top, as they need to sweep their remaining games against the Dragons and the Bakers to at least be in the conversation for the top two seeds and hope that the quotient will favor them in case of a triple-tie
Still, Gonzales remains positive with his team after that shock 90-88 defeat to Racal on Tuesday, where Philip Paniamogan played the hero for the Tile Masters.
“I’m positive that the team will bounce back,” he said.
Meanwhile, all Blustar Detergent wants is to have a memorable finish in its inaugural foray in the D-League.
“There are many things to learn for our players. At least we got two wins in this league. We have our final game against Phoenix, we’ll definitely try our best,” said coach Goh Cheng Huat.
Phoenix and Blustar clash at 6 p.m., following the 4 p.m. duel between also-ran teams AMA Online Education and Topstar ZC Mindanao.
