Aces notch 3rd win to stay alive in PBA

THE Alaska Aces crushed Blackwater Elite, 82-68, to keep their hope of advancing into the next round alive on Wednesday in the resumption of the 40th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup elimination round at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.

Import Damion James and Calvin Abueva fired five points each in the third period to start the Aces’ breakaway en route to securing their third win in eight matches while dropping Blackwater into the bottom of the standing with 2-7 win-loss slate.

Dondon Hontiveros compounded the woes of Blackwater by connecting three triples in the fourth quarter that stretched Alaska’s lead to 14 points, 73-59, still 6:02 remaining.

The gap later ballooned to its biggest 81-62, on James’ three-point play off a foul by Eddie Laure only 2:55 to go.

The 6-foot-7 James finished with 29 points on top of 22 rebounds and two assists. He was nine-of-13 in the free throw lane. And with the victory, coach Alex Compton hopes they can sweep their three remaining games starting against Meralco on March 17, Talk ‘N Text on March 22 and Ginebra on March 25 to make it to the next round.
