Actor-cager Ervic Vijandre was held at the detention cell on Friday night for allegedly mauling a man in Pasay City (Metro Manila).
Complainant Genesis Aniag, a 26-year-old property consultant, said he was inside the Salem Complex, Domestic Road when Vijandre suddenly attacked him at 10:40 p.m.
PO3 Giovanni Arcinue, case investigator, said Aniag was having a drinking spree in a restobar when his friend Diana Torres called him for a meetup in a nearby fast food chain.
Aniag went to the restaurant but Torres was nowhere to be found. When he was about to go back to the restobar, Vijandre suddenly showed up and started punching and kicking the victim, police said.
The investigator added that Vijandre only stopped punching Aniag when the security guards in the area responded.
Aniag said he does not personally know the actor and he has no idea why he was beaten up.
The 30-year-old GMA-7 talent allegedly tried to escape on board his vehicle but the guards were quick to stop him and ask for police assistance.
The victim was initially brought to the San Juan de Dios Hospital due to multiple head and body contusions and hematoma. He was transferred to the Pasay City General Hospital on Saturday upon his request.
The police said Vijandre accused Aniag of spreading rumors against him.
Torres went to the police headquarters on Saturday but she refused to answer media queries.
A case of physical injuries is now being prepared against Vijandre.
