Adamson University (AdU) signed American Airess Padda as head coach of the Lady Falcons for the upcoming University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament that will begin January.
Besides Padda, the Lady Falcons also signed former Adamson ace player Cherry Rose Macatangay, former La Salle player Michelle Gumabao and former University of Santo Tomas spiker Angeli Tabaquero as assistant coaches.
“It is about changing the culture of Adamson volleyball. Not just winning but believing,” said Padda in a news conference inside the AdU campus.
“We wanted to build the legacy here. Just stay tuned. I happily accept the position. Probably one of the most amazing things that happened in my life. I expect this team to have a lot of teamwork and fight,” added Padda, who was once the head coach the Malibu High School team.
The Lady Falcons ended last season with a record of three wins and 11 losses. Adamson finished second in the UAAP finals in 2005, 2007 and 2008.
The former Los Angeles Golden Eagles standout named UST as one of the top contenders next season.
“From what I have seen, I feel UST will be the team to beat this coming season because their players are competing at a higher level, they have a solid team, and they have a good coach,” said Padda.
Padda also announced that Jema Galanza would be Adamson’s team captain.
Adamson also signed former De La Salle University coach Franz Pumaren as its men’s basketball team coach. The Falcons made it to the Final Four this season.
“We are looking forward to an exciting season,” said Adamson University President Fr. Marcelo Manimtim.
