The Adamson University Baby Falcons beat the Chiang Kai Shek College (CKSC) Blue Dragons, 96-85, in overtime, in the finals of the 5th Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship (PSSBC) MEC Networks Cup at the SGS Stadium in Quezon City on Sunday.
The Baby Falcons made history by being the first University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) team to have won a PSSBC title.
“We are happy for this great blessing. This is a collective effort of all the players in the team,” said Florencio Serrano in a postgame interview.
Serrano, the best player of the game, registered 20 points, four assists and one block while Gerry Abadiano notched 16 points and one assist.
The Blue Dragons plunged into their second finals campaign full of energy establishing an early first quarter lead, 20-15.
Serrano led his team with solid offense in the second period neutralizing CKSC’s strong defense. Adamson stretched the lead to eight points, 42-34, entering the second half.
CKSC tallied 28 points in the final canto to push the game to overtime but still failed to keep the PSSBC title.
John Galinato contributed 32 points while Rafael Toribo and Donn Lim chipped in 18 and 10 points, respectively, for CKSC.
Meanwhile, National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 92 juniors champion Mapua-Malayan High School of Science defeated La Salle Greenhills, 80-68, to finish third.
Romuel Junsay finished with 28 points while Clint Escamis had 16 points.
PSSBC is a tournament wherein the top four schools from UAAP, NCAA, and the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation compete.
