More than a thousand people from the Davao provinces participated in the rally that called for peace in Mindanao. Abdul Rasad Sawat, chairperson of the Davao Peace Movement for the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), said the Mamasapano carnage on January 25 must never be made a hindrance to the passage of the proposed Bangsamoro law. Sawat claimed that the conflict in Mindanao can be resolved by the BBL, which will replace the Autonomous Regions of Muslim Mindanao when passed. Similar peace rallies were also conducted in Cotabato, Tacurong, General Santos, Marawi and Isabela cities as well as in the towns of Pikit in North Cotabato, and Jolo in Sulu province. The peace rally in Davao City was attended members of Moro communities in Compostela Valley, Davao del Sur, del Norte and Oriental. Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said the withdrawal of support for the BBL by some members of the Senate is both dangerous and counterproductive. He believed that the Mamasapano incident gives more reason for the peace process to be pursued.
