THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has cancelled some of its pre-anniversary activities as it continues with its humanitarian and disaster relief operations for the victims of typhoon Ruby. AFP Public Affairs Office chief Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said on Monday that the Bayanihan Awards Night, static and kinetic display, the silent drill exhibitions in Camp Aguinaldo and the Philippine Navy’s open ship were among those that have been called off. The open ship activity would have allowed the public to take a tour inside BRP Gregorio Del Pilar, the AFP’s first frigate acquired from the U.S. Armed Forces. The AFP will celebrate its 79th founding anniversary in a ceremony to be held at the General Headquarters grandstand on December 18. This year’s anniversary theme is “Sandatahang Lakas: Ika-79 Taong Tapat na Naglilingkod Tungo sa Kapayapaan, Kasaganahan at Kaunlaran”. The President and AFP Commander-in-Chief Benigno S. Aquino 3rd will be the guest of honor and speaker.
